Abstract

In the north of Qinghai-Xizang Plateau, warm depressions appear frequently over the Qaidam Basin. Most of them do not move across 105°E, but some of them can move further east and change to dynamic depressions, causing heavy rain in the northeast side of the Plateau. What are the synoptic conditions to the Qinghai warm depressions moving towards the east and changing to dynamic depressions? This is a problem which forecasters are interested in. By using the data of QXPMEX (1979), a case is studied in this paper of the Qinghai warm depressions moving towards the east, and, by using the conventional synoptic data from June to August 1963–1965, 1972–4980, the statistical characters of this kind of depressions are also examined.
