Abstract
The principal scientific objectives of the World Climate Research Program (WCRP) are (i) to establish the physical basis of long-range weather prediction, (ii) to understand the predictable aspects of global climate variations over periods of several months to several years, and (iii) to assess the response of climate to natural or man-made influences over periods of several decades.
