Abstract
In 1905, Henrik Sjögren, a Swedish ophthalmologist, described a triad of clinical features consisting of dry eyes, dry mouth and aches and pains. In the past 40 years or so, the syndrome has come to be recognized as not only as a common and important condition, but a syndrome occupying a central pivotal place amongst autoimmune diseases (Figure 12.1).
