Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to present the detailed view on the properties of manganese steels in terms of their practical use regarding only sublimation of manganese. Electrolytic manganese and ferromanganese grades are characterised by the highest manganese contents and therefore are often used as manganese carriers in the investigation of sintered manganese steels. On the other hand, because of their high Mn content, their application in research is largely affected from the thermodynamic point by the fear of their oxidation in the milling and sintering of Mn compacts and therefore are not widely used. There is a continued effort to replace by different master alloys with a lower manganese content.
