Abstract

Just as there was a beginning to the Solar System’s habitability, probably when the heavy bombardment subsided some 3900 Ma ago, so there will be an end, not just to the habitability of the Earth, but to the Solar System as a whole. This end might be brought about by a variety of cataclysms originating outside the Solar System.
