Actuator with Multi Degrees of Freedom

  • Chapter

Abstract

The latest research development of the project “Actuator with multi degrees of freedom (DOF)” is reported. At first, advantages of the multi DOF actuator are presented. Next, the design concept of the multi pole spherical synchronous motor is proposed. The specifications and the drive system are presented. The experimental results of the positioning control, the high speed control, the trajectory control, and the output torque control are shown. Then, the design concept of the hexahedron-octahedron based spherical stepping motor is proposed. The specifications and the drive system are presented. The experimental results of changing the rotational direction, the speed control, the output torque control are shown. The developed spherical actuators will be a high torque actuator by using iron cored, back yoked armature coils.
