Threats of Sourcing Locally Without a Strategic Approach: Impacts on Lead Time Performances

  • Conference paper
Rapid Modelling for Increasing Competitiveness

Abstract

This paper analyses the impact of local sourcing on lead time performances. In particular attention is devoted to the effect of choosing to source locally without having made a proper strategic analysis of the purchasing process. Analyses are based on data provided by the IMSS research project regarding more than 500 companies in different countries around the world. Results show that local sourcing can lead to bad performances if it is adopted without a clear sourcing strategy.
