Abstract
Legg–Calvé–Perthes disease is caused by infarction of the upper femoral epiphysis complicated by trabecular fracture and associated with a process of repair (Fig. 27.1) [1]. The infarct may be variable in extent and the disorder also varies in its outcome: at best the effects may be limited to a childhood limp which can resolve spontaneously. At worst, if the femoral head segmental collapses and subsequent deformity fails to remodel well, it may lead to shortening, stiffness, and premature hip arthritis.
