Abstract

For 7 months I was based in Helmand province, Afghanistan as a Medical Officer providing medical care to the deployed ISAF forces. Most of this care was provided from Combat outposts (COPs) or Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) which are isolated locations that combat troops use to push out patrols and secure areas of Helmand provinces “Green Zone,” this is a band of fertile land that runs along the banks of the Helmand river.
