Abstract

Diarrhea is abnormal defecation or the passing of abnormal feces. It may manifest as more frequent defecation or as abnormal feces that are poorly formed or water-like. It is often accompanied by abdominal distention, abdominal pain or borborygmus. Note that diarrhea is distinct from dysentery, which usually presents with tenes-mus and feces that contain blood or pus.
