Abstract
In this chapter the different alternatives of machine tool drives are described. They show the industrial state-of-the-art in driving and guiding systems. Both linear and rotary drives are analysed from a descriptive perspective and some basic design principles are also explained. Examples are taken from well-known manufacturers. Finally, the latest trends in components for driving systems are shown, giving us a perspective of the near future machine tools.
