Plasma Magnetic Control Problem

Abstract

In the previous chapters we have shown how it is possible to derive a FDLTI (finite-dimension linear time-invariant) model able to describe the interactions between the plasma and the surrounding structures, in terms of specified inputs and outputs, under certain simplifying assumptions. In this part of the book, we will focus mainly on the problem of controlling the plasma current, position and shape by means of the magnetic field produced by the poloidal field coils. Our problem will be to find a set of coil currents which generate a magnetic field which enables tracking a desired behaviour in terms of plasma position and shape.
