Abstract
Background: The tool-kit plays a very important role during organ harvesting and transplantation. It consists of the arteries and the veins removed during organ procurement. The tool-kit is used for the reconstruction of different vessels for both the retrieved organ as well as for the vessels of the recipient. The quality of the procured tool-kit is very important and has a great influence on organ and recipient survival.
The most popular tool-kit comprises the iliac vessels, which consists of common, external and internal artery and the vein. If the iliac tool-kit is of a poor quality, the procurement team should look for other vessels such as the aorta, femoral, or even vessels in the limbs.
In most of the cases, the tool-kit is given to the liver, pancreas, small bowel and, if necessary, to the kidney if the recipient centre made such a request or if, during procurement, the kidney vessels were damaged.
Conclusion: The quality of the procured tool-kit is very important and has a great influence on organ and recipient survival.
