Contents

Established in the later 1980s by the work of Harris [19], the research on control loop performance monitoring has been and remains one of the most active research areas in process control community. A number of new approaches have been developed since then [22, 21, 20]. It is estimated that several hundreds of papers have been published on this or related topics [111]. On the practical side, Eastman Kodak recently reported regular loop monitoring on over 14000 PID loops [111], and some commercial control performance assessment software including multivariate performance assessment has also come available.
