After ventricular and atrial premature beats, atrial fibrillation (AF) is the most frequent arrhythmia. Hemodynamics and symptoms are related to the ventricular rate and the loss of atrial contraction. The most important complication of AF is cerebral stroke. Moreover, AF is an independent risk factor for death. Therapy and prevention of AF are complex.
