Analysis of the ventricular chambers indicates that ventricular inversion is apparent, with the posterior ventricle representing a morphologic right ventricle. The left ventricle is anterior in location, and is smooth-walled. The right ventricle is posteriorly located and is the systemic ventricle. It appears heavily trabeculated, and demonstrates mildly decreased systolic function.
The aorta is seen to originate in an abnormal anterior location from this right ventricle. Additionally, the outflow tract leading to the aorta has a right ventricular configuration, with an infundibulum apparent. In addition, there is no evidence of fibrous continuity between the systemic ventricular arteriovenous and atrioventricular valves as is usually the case.
