Abstract

The most important feature and information-rich portion of a landmark is its edge. The landmark edge is smoothed by both the finite sensitive area of the pixel and the illuminance function. The illuminance function of a circular landmark, rendered in a 3-D plot such as Plate 4 (see Color Section, page 147), has the look of a tepuy or table mountain.
