Abstract
Of the 53,856 thyroid cancers from the National Cancer Data Base, 1.7% were anaplastic cancers.1 The proportion of anaplastic cancers can be as high as 16%, especially in countries where the intake of iodine is low.2 The patient is usually 60 years or older and women are more often involved. This is the most lethal solid cancer and the median survival is about 3–6 months.3,4 The only hope of cure is very early detection and complete excision. This seldom happens.
