Abstract

Based on its size, the thyroid has the second highest arterial blood flow. There-fore, it can be the site of blood-borne metastases. Systemic metastases are usually found in the lungs, liver, brain, and bone marrow, and certain cancers have a natural propensity to metastasize to specific sites such as prostate cancer to the skeleton and bowel cancer to the liver. Common cancers seldom metastasize to the thyroid. When a nonthyroidal cancer is diagnosed in the thyroid, the key is how should the patient be managed?
