Standardisation of Focal Therapy Protocols

Imaging and Focal Therapy of Early Prostate Cancer

Abstract

The concept of focal therapy, in its various modalities, is currently being explored within several clinical trials. All of these studies address the concept of targeting treatment only to the cancer, with sparing of normal tissue, in the aim of reducing treatment-related harm. However, the conduct of these trials varies significantly in terms of eligibility criteria, diagnostic investigations, treatment protocols, and follow-up strategies. This chapter explores the components of a focal therapy trial protocol and the possibilities for optimising and standardising its components in order to improve research outputs and comparison of results.
