Abstract
Relationships with the pharmaceutical and medical device industry are pervasive in the world of physician-scientists. These relationships can affect your research and promotions, in addition to posing a variety of ethical concerns. A full discussion of research ethics is beyond the scope of this book, but I suggest consulting the research ethics board at your institution to inform yourself of the regulations governing research ethics in general and relationships with industry in particular. Nevertheless, relationships with industry can be beneficial to your research program and can have a significant positive impact on public health. You need to have a solid understanding of the pros and cons of different types of industry relationships so that you can make informed decisions about when to become involved.
Moderation in all things.
