Abstract
Giving lectures and presentations is an important part of your career as a physician-scientist. Unfortunately, most physician-scientists have no formal training in lecturing. You can improve your lecturing skills with practice. There are tips and techniques that will help you prepare and deliver professional presentations. These methods can be learned from courses and books that focus on how to lecture. I encourage you, early in your career, to attend a course and/or read a book on improving your lecturing skills. In addition, examine the techniques of others when you attend their lectures and presentations.
When I give a lecture, I accept that people look at their watches, but what I do not tolerate is when they look at it and raise it to their ear to find out if it has stopped.
