Abstract

Although liver transplantation has become a viable option for treatment of many patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), the limited availability of donor organs and the strict criteria for organ transplantation limit the use of transplantation for this disease. Hepatic resection remains the gold standard nontransplant treatment modality and is still the first-line treatment in many centers.
