Flexibility: A Concise Guide

Abstract

A major component of physical health and well-being is an individual’s ability to successfully perform the activities of daily living. To perform everyday activities, a healthy musculoskeletal system is essential, and this requires adequate levels of muscular strength, endurance, and flexibility. Without a sufficient level of musculoskeletal fitness, the overall quality of life of an individual will suffer and health status will decline. In cases in which physical capacities have been lost because of injury, illness, or disease, rehabilitation can help the individual restore some or all of the physical deficits.
