Abstract

In its half-century history, two parallel developments have formed a firm and lasting foundation for the contemporary practice of cardiac rehabilitation. First and foremost was decades of research to build the evidence base that defines the safety and effectiveness of cardiac rehabilitation. Other chapters in this book summarize much of that science and suggest related practical applications. The concurrent effort contributed to a business model that would make the operation of cardiac rehabilitation programs sustainable.
