Abstract
The last decade of the 20th century saw the emergence of a new paradigm in clinical decision making with the appearance of evidence-based medicine (EBM) (1). The ultimate in the hierarchy of evidence in EBM is the randomized controlled clinical trial (RCT). Unfortunately, the N-of-1 RCT, ideal for evaluating the effectiveness of interventions in the individual patient, is rarely feasible or if feasible, is rarely conducted.
