Abstract

A 16-year-old girl was hit by a pitch while playing softball. It was estimated that the ball traveled at about 60 miles an hour and hit the left side of her head. About 3 hours after the incident, she became somnolent. On arrival to the ER 15 minutes later, she was responding minimally to external stimuli. Clinical examination revealed a dilated left pupil with sluggish reaction to light and a Babinski sign on the right.
