Abstract

The cerebrovascular complications of cardiac interventional trials are comprised of heterogeneous groups of ischemic and hemorrhagic brain injuries. These occur with varying frequencies determined by the characteristics of the patient population under study, the procedures involved and the combination and intensity of antitplatelet, antithrombotic, and fibrinolytic agents employed. Unraveling this complex interplay of factors contributing to all stroke subtypes is important not only to improve the overall outcome for patients with coronary disease, but also to develop successful treatments for patients with occlusive cerebrovascular disease.
