Antagonism of Chemokine Receptors in Preventing Infection by HIV

  • Chapter
Chemokines in Disease

Part of the book series: Contemporary Immunology ((CONTIM))

Abstract

Infection of human cells by HIV-I requires the binding and fusion of the host and the virus. The recognition complex contains two viral proteins, gp120 and gp41 which are the products of the env gene. On the host side, the receptor complex contains the glyco-protein CD4, and a chemokine receptor.
