Abstract
Recorders and data systems convert the electronic signal output from the LC detector into a permanent record for future use. In nearly all cases, the primary record is a chromatogram, plotted on a piece of chart paper. In addition to a chromatogram, the data may be reported as results tables and/or stored on magnetic media. A variety of recorders and data systems are available, ranging from strip-chart recorders to multisystem computer-based units that also serve as controllers for several LC systems. This chapter discusses the principles of operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of these devices. Because of the variety and complexity of available products, you will need to refer to operation manuals for specific procedures for many systems.
