Abstract
Citrus fruits are believed to have originated in the Ancient Orient. In the United States, citrus cultivation began in Florida in the early 1800s and later spread to Texas, Arizona, and California. By the 1930s, the citrus fruit production surpassed the demand for fresh fruit, stimulating the development of several of citrus products, and, by 1976, more than 90% of Florida’ s orange crop was used for orange juice production. Today, orange juice is Americans’ most frequently consumed fruit serving (1).
