Abstract

Anorectal disorders are extremely common, and well over 50% of the population will be afflicted by one or more during a lifetime. Although hemorrhoids are typically blamed for virtually any anorectal complaint, other disorders are just as common. Appropriate treatment is based on identification of the correct diagnosis. In this chapter we will review the common benign anorectal problems the practitioner is likely to encounter including hemorrhoids, fissures, abscesses and fistulae, pruritus ani, hypertrophied anal papillae, and skin tags.
