Abstract

Several Nocardia species have been known to be pathogenic to humans and animals, among them, N. asteroides, N. brasiliensis, N. farcinica, N. nova (1), N. transvalensis (2–4), and N. otitidiscaviarum (formerly known as N. caviae) (5–8). Nocardial infection is usually transmitted through inhalation or by traumatic inoculation of the skin (9,10).
