Abstract

Many attempts have been made to create partially obstructed coronary arteries in animals that can then be studied and manipulated to produce controlled decreases in coronary flow so that controlled increments of ischemia would be induced. Such a model would require the production of a fixed amount of stenosis, which would allow for essentially normal coronary flow with the animal at rest, but would cause ischemia and sudden death under many of the conditions known to increase the likelihood of sudden death in humans.
