Abstract

The sphenopalatine ganglion is a major intersection point for autonomic nerve fibers which gives innervation to the face. Sphenopalatine ganglion can be blocked using both intranasal and infrazygomatic approaches. Radiofrequency ablation of the ganglion can be performed using infrazygomatic approach. Sphenopalatine block and RFA can be used to treat a variety of head and facial pain disorders including cluster headaches, herpes zoster, trigeminal neuralgia, atypical facial pain, and migraine.
