Abstract
Since 1979, China has carried out five nationwide tuberculosis (TB) epidemiological sampling surveys aiming to obtain accurate TB morbidity data. The findings of these epidemiological surveys have greatly informed the understanding of the situations and trends concerning TB in China, including evaluation of the outcomes of the TB Control Program and the formulation of new TB control strategies. These surveys provided important information on morbidity rates for active and smear-positive TB patients, prevalence rates, and rates of initial treatment and retreatment. This chapter provides an overview of each of the nationwide TB epidemiological sampling surveys completed in China in order to follow the similar efforts in other countries.
