Abstract

This chapter addresses the etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of benign anorectal disorders encountered in the elderly. The topics that will be discussed include pruritus ani, fistula-in-ano, anal fissure, hemorrhoids, and sexually transmitted diseases. The treatment objectives for these anorectal disorders include the eradication of disease, alleviation of symptoms, preservation of sphincter function, and prevention of disease recurrence.
