Abstract

Pelvic floor disorders are a challenging and poorly understood clinical entity. These disorders are most commonly found among the elderly. In fact, 1 out of 10 women by the age of 80 will require surgery for pelvic organ prolapse. An understanding about the treatment of these disorders is especially timely given our aging US population. The purpose of this chapter is to highlight the diagnosis and treatment of rectal prolapse with a focus on the elderly patient.
