Abstract
The liver is a pyramid-shaped organ in the right upper abdominal quadrant beneath the diaphragm, with its base toward the right abdominal wall. It is the largest internal organ in the human body, normally weighing approximately 1500 g. It is surrounded cranially by the diaphragm, to the left by the stomach, to the right by the abdominal wall, caudally by the gallbladder and duodenum, and inferiorly by the right kidney and right colon. The transplantation procedure consists of procurement surgery to remove the organ or partial organ from a deceased or living donor, then another operation to transplant the donor organ to the recipient.
