Abstract

As was mentioned already in Sect. 1.5, a function y = f(x) establishes a correspondence between values of x taken from \(\mathbb{R}\) and values of y also from \(\mathbb{R}\). It is not an essential condition for the function to exist that the values of x and/or y form continuous intervals.
