Abstract
You are an attending physician in a large university hospital. An ENT resident suggests the following clinical study: a comparison of a new oral hypotensive agent about which you know nothing to a placebo. The drug is to be given 48 h prior to surgery. The study is to be prospective, double blinded, and randomized. The objective is to improve surgical conditions as assessed by a blinded surgeon. If published, the resident hopes to add to the control hypotension/bleeding literature. He plans to use a Mann–Whitney U test.
Have you any concerns about this study as described above? If so, what?
