Abstract

The electrocardiogram (EKG) is not a good way to detect chamber enlargement. The criteria are not specific or sensitive. The predictive value of the findings is disappointing. In spite of these limitations, the findings, when present, raise the possibility of chamber enlargement, and it is useful to be familiar with the terms applied to chamber enlargement on the EKG so that when these terms are used the appearance of the tracing can be expected.
