Abstract
Gastroenterologists have expanded services offered to patients beyond the professional care provided clinically and endoscopically. At present, many practices have developed or acquired ancillary services to improve patient care and experience. This expansion has allowed more direct and efficient diagnostic and treatment options. In today’s health-care market, value of a service rendered is created by improved patient access to quality care as a function of its cost. The chapter discusses the management of quality and value in ancillary services provided by many gastroenterology practices such as ambulatory surgical centers, anesthesia services, pathology, infusion centers, and diagnostic imaging.
