Identification, Treatment, and Prevention of Complications: Perforation in the Upper Gastrointestinal Tract

  • Chapter
Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection

Abstract

Endoscopic resection, including endoscopic mucosal resection and endoscopic submucosal dissection, has been accepted as a treatment for superficial gastrointestinal tumors that have a negligible risk of lymph node metastasis. The appropriate endoscopic resection technique should be safe and effective; however, endoscopic resection is associated with risk of various complications, such as perforation. Endoscopists must be aware of not only the risk factors for and incidence of complications, but also how to effectively treat such complications.
