Abstract
The liver is often considered the heart of metabolism as it plays the key role in our ability to fast or feast, maintaining a steady flow of nutrients in the bloodstream to support vital organ function. In this chapter we examine the metabolic pathways that become disrupted in liver failure and how this will affect nutrient utilization, in order to best design nutritional support strategies.
