Abstract

Permanent prostatic stents are an option for patients in whom a transurethral procedure is prohibitive, although complications involving stent migration/removal complicate widespread use. Temporary stents in the form of retrievable stents have growing applications following procedures such as brachytherapy or transurethral thermotherapy, where there is transient prostatic edema. Careful patient selection and follow-up is paramount within this population, regardless of the duration of the stent.
