Abstract
Since the introduction of laparoscopic cholecystectomy, the surgical approach to many intra-abdominal diseases has dramatically changed. Laparoscopic colectomy is now widely performed for both benign and malignant conditions. Recently, many skilled surgeons have started applying laparoscopic techniques when performing stoma reversal. Laparoscopic stoma reversal can be technically demanding, but if performed by experienced surgeons, operative trauma may be minimized and the advantages of minimally invasive surgery still observed. In this chapter, I will describe the technical aspects of laparoscopic stoma reversal as well as highlight various options including stoma reversal after Hartmann’s pouch creation and ileostomy takedown with bowel anastomosis.
