Abstract

Vasectomy procedure needs to be discussed with the patient and this discussion may need to involve the patient’s active sexual partner. It is imperative on the surgeon to have a thorough discussion with the patient and document this discussion including the permanency of the procedure, the instructions that this cannot be relied on as the sole source of contraception until approximately 20 or more ejaculations and a semen analysis confirming the lack of sperm. At the same time as the procedure discussion, postoperative plans for wound care, activity, resuming sexual activity can be addressed.
