Abstract

This chapter describes the anesthesiologist/intensivist’s role in the management of the trauma patient from the initial acute course through the critical care phase. Damage control PACU objectives are reviewed. Intensive care unit multi-organ support for critically injured trauma patients is discussed; specifically focusing on respiratory support and ventilator management, infection and antibiotic considerations, neurologic support including ICP control, sedation, and the treatment of delirium, renal prophylaxis, renal replacement therapy, and nutrition.
