Abstract
This chapter introduces the major indications for hepatectomy including metastasectomy, hepatocellular carcinoma, and cholangiocarcinoma. The evaluation of underlying liver function in patients being considered for hepatic resection is described in detail. The technique of different types of hepatectomy is discussed, as are the most common postoperative complications of these operations, particularly hemorrhage, biliary leak, and liver failure. A classic case of hepatocellular carcinoma is described, and questions are provided for review.
